  • a) 1 only
    b) 2 only
    c) Both 1 and 2
    d) Neither 1 nor 2
Solution:   d Explaination   Statement 1 is based on 'Marxist Socialism'. Suppose there are two people X and Y. X is already rich. Y is totally poor. Both are having equal liberty and opportunity. Suppose they start same business independently. It is easy for X to go to higher level in that business as he can invest more and even can buy the competitive companies but Y finds it difficult to go forward (but Y needs to get high than X). Hence, liberty alone is not sufficient to make everyone equal. Hence, Marx said that X and Y should be brought to same level and then, they are allowed to develop. Thus, true liberty and euality can be achieved. In Statement 2, As long as injustice exists in the society, equality cannot be achieved. It can be understood from article 14 of the Indian Constitution.
