Pravasi Bharatiya Divas :-
- Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated once in every two years to strengthen the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Government of India and reconnect them with their roots.
- January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa.
- Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conventions are being held every year since 2003.
- These conventions enable networking among the overseas Indian community and to share their experiences in various fields.
- 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) was held in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) from January 21 to January 23, 2019.
Exercise Sea Vigil :-
- It is the largest coastal defence exercise off Indian coast and being coordinated by Indian Navy.
- Being undertaken along the entire 7516.6 km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone of India and involves all the 13 coastal States and Union Territories
- Indian Navy begins massive coastal defence exercise to check 26/11-style attacks and it is two-day exercise.
N.K. Singh Committee :-
- N.K. Singh committee was constituted by the govt. for reviewing the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, 2003.
- Committee suggested using debt as the primary target for fiscal policy.
- Debt to GDP ratio of 60% should be targeted with a 40% limit for the center and 20% limit for the states and this should be achieved by 2023.
- To achieve this targeted ratio, it proposed yearly targets to progressively reduce the fiscal and revenue deficits till 2023.
Recommendations of N.K.Singh Committee
Raisina Dialogue :-
- Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference committed to address the most challenging issues being faced by the global community.
- Every year, global leaders in policy, business, media and civil society are hosted in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on a wide range of pertinent international policy matters.
- Conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs.
Swine Flu :-
- Swine Flu is due to the flu virus called H1N1.
- H1N1 is a type of infectious virus, it is a combination of swine, bird and human genes, which are mixed together in pigs and spread to humans.
- H1N1 infection is also known as swine flu because in the past it was the same people who came in direct contact with the pigs.
- There are three categories of H1N1 - A, B and C
- A and B categories require domestic care, while in Category C, urgent hospitalization and medical care are required because its symptoms and results are extremely serious and can also lead to death.

Context
Microsoft India unveiled a new e-commerce platform under the ReWeave project to help handloom weavers whose name is 're-weave .in '.
The purpose of this forum
- Directly connecting artisans who buy them so they can reach new customers and markets.
- To keep the best clothes made by weavers communities in front of the world.
- Keep traditional styles and products prepared with natural colors to more customers.
- To help weavers increase their income and help them to sustain their livelihood.
- To revive India's forgotten traditional art.
ReWeave What is the project?
- The project will be launched in 2016 by Microsoft India (R & D) Pvt. Was launched under its human welfare scheme.
- The ecosystem of handloom knitting is to be revived in India.
- Under this initiative Microsoft together with NGOs, Chaitanya Bharti provides weaker families with necessary infrastructure, finance and market facilities.

Topic : Triple-drug therapy for lymphatic filariasis
Context
A pilot project was recently unveiled for the treatment of three drugs in Nagpur, Maharashtra with a long-term objective of eradicating lymphatic filariasis or elephants. This project will be run in Nagpur and other four districts of the country.
This treatment for three drugs (Triple Drug Therapy) What is it?
- A mixture of three drugs is given for the treatment of elephants and legs. These medicines are - ivermectin, diethylcarbamazine citrate and albendazole.
- This is the third drug in that i.e. albendazole helps in controlling the elephants and adult germs. Earlier, such germs were cooled by giving medicines, which they used to become inactive for a year. Due to the third medication this period of inactivity will increase to two years.
- The adult germs have four years of age. Therefore, it is recommended to feed these three medicines for two consecutive years. This will happen that the germs will die after completing their age and there will be no harm to the patient.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended its treatment for three drugs, to speed up the elimination of hand-to-mouth disease worldwide.
The problem of elephants and feet in India
- In India there are elephants and the strongest in the world. Virtually 40% of the world's such cases are found in India.
- India was supposed to end elephant leg by 2017 but it could not happen. Therefore, the target of 2020 has been fixed for the entire eradication of elephants and the entire world. It is expected that with the mixed use of three drugs this goal will be fulfilled.
The reason for the elephant-leg
- This disease is caused by the infection of parasitic germs living in the lymphatic system.
- The parasite's blood is transmitted in the body along with the blood and mosquito bites this disease gets transmitted to another person.
- There are four kinds of mosquitoes transmitting elephant-foot parasites, they are - Culex, Mansonia, Anopheles and
- After transmission, the symptoms of the disease are time-consuming. This causes a change in the lymphatic system and it causes an abnormal increase in some organs.
- Due to limb growth, the patient is weakly injured, but also experiences deliberate on behalf of the society.

Topic : Groundwater ‘time bomb’ is ticking
Context
Recently scientists have warned that future generations will have to face the environmental " time-bomb " because the steps being taken to strengthen the world's ground water systems It may take years to come in their effect.
What's the problem?
According to the findings of an international research team, on one hand, where the global population is going to be explosion as well as increasing crop production, on the other hand, the reserves of land and water Tapping is also increasing. Due to reaching the level of ground water again to the earlier stage, it is drought and excessive rainfall also has adverse effects on it.
Why is the name of the crisis a time-bomb?
Researchers say that in the next hundred years, half of our land-water will be able to return again. This will cause problems of water shortage in dry areas. Therefore, this problem has been given the name of time-bomb, that is, after a long time, its most formidable form will emerge.
Groundwater Status in India
India uses the highest ground water in the world. Here, 90% of groundwater is used for drinking. 60-70% of irrigation water comes from ground water only. In cities, 50% of the water supply is also from ground water.
Two main causes of ground water crisis
- Extra exploitation of reservoirs
- Pollution of land water: - This pollution is due to geological substances such as arsenic and fluoride, for this waste and waste water is not the only proper solution to be disposed of.
